The Nine Steps towards becoming a certified EMDIR Practitioner!
Step One: Understand what EMDIR Training is all about
EMDIR therapy is a specialized approach that requires supervised training for full therapeutic effectiveness and client safety. The training consists of lectures, workshops, video demonstrations, and supervised practice with soldiers and members of bereaved families. The training is based on extensive research and to meet the current needs of both therapists and those who need our therapy. Our hands-on, experiential training will instruct participants with an expansive scope of EMDIR therapy applications for effective use with a wide range of therapeutic challenges.
Step TWO: Ensure your eligibility
EMDIR Training is designed for:
Clinicians with a master's degree in a healthcare profession, who promote, maintain, or restore physical and/or mental health through patient education, physical intervention, disease prevention, and health promotion
Licensed Professionals doctors, psychologists, therapists, advanced practice registered nurses with a specialization in psychiatric mental health and/or physical therapy, and are eligible
Pre-Licensed Professionals: Certified therapists pursuing a mental health and/or bodywork license .
Graduate Students: enrolled in a graduate program in a mental /physical health field, have completed core coursework, and are in the practicum/internship phase.
STEP THREE: REGISTRATION
Complete the Form: Complete the form below, submit your documentation and pay the tuition Plan Your Schedule Take into account that the training includes 2 training days, required hours of consultation and supervised "hands-on" practice.
Step four: Take the training
Training Schedule: The training sessions are held on two separate days, providing a comprehensive learning experience.
Training Preparation: Read and watch required learning resources.
Consultation Requirement: Complete 10 hours of consultation to reinforce learning and apply techniques. Consultation is about real cases to whom the trainee is currently providing therapy.
Hands-on Supervised Practice Trainees will participate and provide EMDIR in a therapy session with either soldiers and/or members of bereaved families and will be supervised by the EMDIR staff.
STEP FIVE: ATTEND THE basic training
EMDIR therapy is a specialized approach that requires supervised training for full therapeutic effectiveness and client safety. The training consists of lectures, video demonstrations, consultations and supervised practice and required reading of the integration of EMDR Basic Principles, Protocols and Procedures with Physical Therapy. The training includes 10 hours of didactic + 10 hours of supervised practice and 10 hours of case consultation about real cases after the basic training and following the second training session.
Step SIX: Attend the Advanced Specialty Workshops

Embrace this possibility and enhance your therapeutic skills and achieve new levels of proficiency.
STEP SEVEN: participate in the Supervised TREATMENT sessions
After completing the Basic training and an advanced specialty workshop, trainees must participate in a hands-on supervised treatment session with an EMDIR trainer. Supervised treatment sessions include working with members of bereaved families and/or soldiers that either experienced severe combat trauma and/or were severely injured in the battlefield and/or first responders to natural and man-made disasters. The supervised treatment sessions will include addressing trauma, adversity, and other disturbing life events; applications to addictions, grief, anxiety, and emotional reactions to illness and injury, family and couples therapy and means to process vicarious traumatization.
STEP EIGHT: Case consultation!
Case consultation is working with an approved consultant on client cases using EMDIR. We require you to complete 10 hours of consultation regarding using EMDIR in your client cases. This may be done individually or in groups and is done primarily online. The purpose of the EMDIR consultation is to enhance your understanding and skills in using EMDIR and to support you as you begin to apply EMDIR with soldiers and/or first responders and/or members of bereaved families and/or former hostages and/or their families.
STEP NINE: Graduate!
Certificate of Completion/Diploma Requirements
1. Completion of both days of training.
2. Read and discuss the Research Papers on the psychophysiology of trauma integration; EMDR Basic Principles, Protocols and Procedures with PTSD; and on the impact of trauma on the body and the phenomenon of somatic memory and knowing what can be done about its manifestations. .
3. Case consultation (at least 10 hours)
4. Hands-on Supervised Treatment Sessions (at least 2 supervised sessions with soldiers, first responders and/or members of bereaved families)
5. Completion of post- training quiz with an 80% or higher
You must complete this process within one year of taking the EMDIR Basic Training to receive certification.
