About EMDIR

Enhance your Competencies!
Boost your clients capabilities to cope with pain, flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety and uncontrollable thoughts.

EMDIR is an integrative therapeutic approach designed to alleviate both physical and mental distress symptoms associated with traumatic memories.
EMDIR integrates mental health and somatic-based approaches to bring to an adaptive resolution to trauma and stress-related disorders by empowering the accessing and processing of traumatic memories and other adverse life experiences.
EMDIR therapy helps relieve both affective and physical distress, while reformulating negative beliefs and reducing physiological arousal. EMDIR stimulates the nervous system by promoting healing through neutralizing painful memories and sensations, empowering your clients to perceive anticipated painful situations from a more positive perspective. Pain can get locked into the nervous system with no apparent escape, EMDIR helps facilitate its release, resulting in reduction or elimination of pain.

EMDIR alleviates both the physical and mental distress associated with traumatic memories

EMDIR facilitates the accessing of the traumatic memory network, so that information processing and physical functioning is enhanced, with new associations forged between the traumatic memory and more adaptive memories or information. These new associations result in the enhancement of a person’s abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives, with enhanced information processing, elimination of physical and emotional distress, and renewed development of cognitive insights.

EMDIR can have a positive effect in numerous pathological situations, particularly with populations who experience the effects of war and terrorism and namely in traumatic reactions, somatic symptoms, sexual dysfunction, pain,  sleep disorders, addictions, somatoform disorders,  disorders of adult personality, mood disorders, reaction to severe stress, anxiety disorders, performance anxiety and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

Why Become an EMDIR Practitioner?

EMDIR practitioners are trained to focus on healing the emotions, actions, thoughts and/or behaviors that result from a distressing traumatic experience. This empowers your clients body and mind brain to engage in a natural healing process.

Soldiers

Soldiers & PTSD

EMDIR helps soldiers deal with the sights, sounds and smells with a connection or similarity to a trauma event experienced on the battlefield that can  “trigger” those improperly stored memories. Unlike other memories, these can cause overwhelming feelings of fear, anxiety, anger or panic.
EMDIR is highly effective with the challenges of both PTSD & C-PTSD and trauma-related guilt including  flashbacks, upsetting thoughts or images, hypervigilance and preoccupation with negative self-attributes of one's actions in the traumatic event.

Bereaved Families

Members of Bereaved Families/Complicated Grief (CG)

EMDIR can help members of bereaved families to cope with physical and mental shock and numbness, overwhelming sadness, tiredness or exhaustion, anger and guilt with feelings that the future seems bleak and empty. EMDIR is very effective with people experiencing intense grief in which maladaptive thoughts and dysfunctional behaviors are present along with continued yearning,  and sadness along with preoccupation with thoughts and memories of the person who died/was killed.

Severely Injured

EMDIR can help in the rehabilitation of severe physical injuries (that manifest as acute/chronic pain and movement challenges resulting from a war injury when accompanying psychological distress is an obstacle to the healing process.

Pain

Chronic Pain

EMDIR can be effective especially with people with high levels of emotional stress, significant anxiety, or relevant psychological comorbidity, where classical pain therapy approaches often fail, taking into account that dysfunctions in emotion processing have a significant influence on the persistence of pain symptoms. The recognition that pain can become chronic through maladaptive emotional processing forms the pathophysiological basis for the application of EMDIR in the treatment of chronic pain.

Anxiety

Anxiety disorders

EMDIR can be effective in treating both the physical and the mental symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, phobias, or OCD symptoms and social anxiety/phobia. EMDIR can help your clients tie current symptoms to negative beliefs and unresolved stressful events that have fueled and strengthened those beliefs.

Refugees

Displaced People

EMDIR can help to protect and improve the mental health, psychosocial well-being, rehabilitation and stabilization of internally/forcibly displaced people and refugees because of war who have been exposed to traumatic events (i.e. threat of death; loss of home/community and the injury, death, or disappearance/separation of family members) and  displacement stress (i.e. unemployment, poor social integration, and weak social network).

Holocaust

transgenerational transmission of trauma

EMDIR can help people suffering from the physical and psychological effects of transgenerational transmission of trauma and in particular with the psychosocial dysfunctioning of 2nd & 3rd generation of Holocaust survivors of persecution and genocidal actions.
This is especially critical with the dramatic rise of antisemitism throughout the world and the genocidal actions that we're experiencing against our people and what's erupting all over the world.

OCD

Obsessive-compulsive disorders

EMDIR can be effective in treating Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). EMDIR treats trauma induced obsessions and compulsions that often occur after experiencing severe trauma, as current ongoing trauma thereby empowering clients to process their ongoing obsessions by focusing on stressors — including abuse or a traumatic event —that trigger the onset of OCD and thereby  reducing the fear at the heart of those obsessions.

Depression

Depression disorders

EMDIR is an effective  treatment for repressive reaction and symptoms resulting from the war. EMDIR treats the symptoms of depression by targeting underlying life events, childhood memories, negative beliefs, and triggers. EMDIR can help clients work through depression through awareness of the body's posture and movements and identifying the powerful, negative thoughts or beliefs that trigger their symptoms. By working with these specific thoughts and identifying the underlying life events, experiences, or traumatic memories that led to the development of those beliefs, you can empower your clients to begin to alleviate symptoms of depression.
